Our story

Your smile is one of the best assets you have. Dr. Stephen Forrest has spent more than thirty years in the Des Moines area making sure yours looks natural: like your own teeth at their best, never overdone.

An Iowa native, trained at the University of Iowa, and checking your progress at every step.

Porcelain veneers

Veneers, one clear step at a time.

Thin, custom shells over the front of the teeth that show when you speak and laugh. Porcelain for strong stain resistance and a lifelike shine, or composite, shaped directly on the tooth in one visit for select cases.

  1. ConsultationPhotos, low-radiation x-rays if needed, your bite and gums, and a clear estimate.
  2. Smile designShape, length and shade chosen with you, often with a 3D preview or digital mockup.
  3. Conservative prepA very small amount of enamel, fully numbed. About one to two hours.
  4. ScansAn exact model of your teeth goes to a skilled dental lab with your shade and notes.
  5. TemporariesOne to two weeks to test the new length and shape as you talk and eat.
  6. Try-inThe finished veneers placed with a removable gel, adjusted until you love them.
  7. BondingEach veneer set, the bite checked, and the edges polished to a glassy finish.
  8. Follow-upAbout two weeks later: gums, edges and bite checked again.

Smile makeovers

Two or more treatments. One plan, costed up front.

A smile makeover combines veneers, whitening, Invisalign, implants, bonding or gum recontouring into one personalized plan. Where the problem is pain, missing teeth or widespread wear, the same care goes into a full mouth reconstruction, with health and function first.

It starts with a conversation

The question on most minds: what is possible for my smile?

Dr. Forrest examines your teeth and gums, listens to what bothers you, and learns what you want your smile to look like. He takes photos and any scans that are needed.

02

A plan designed around your face

The worry: a smile that looks fitted rather than yours.

He considers your facial features, your gumline and the natural color of your skin, then walks you through each treatment, the order, the timeline and the cost. You approve the plan before any work begins.

03

Nothing permanent until you love it

The fear: living with a result you had no say in.

“I never permanently place any cosmetic work until a patient sees it and loves it,” says Dr. Forrest. Progress is checked at each step, and adjusted as needed.

Four people ask about most.

Porcelain Veneers

Thin shells bonded to the front of the teeth. With proper care they typically last 10 to 15 years, and they resist staining far better than natural teeth.

Invisalign

Clear, removable aligners worn 20 to 22 hours a day. Minor corrections can take as little as 6 months; the average is about 12.

Dental Implants

A titanium post in the jawbone stands in for the root and preserves the bone around it. Often placed at extraction, or after 3 to 6 months of healing.

Teeth Whitening

In-office and take-home options, several shades beyond store-bought kits. Results can last from six months to several years with good care.

Planning & technology

See it before a tooth is touched.

Photos and scans come first. For multi-tooth cases there is often a 3D preview or digital mockup, so you can see the proposed length and width of your new smile before any preparation begins.

  • Digital scansAn exact model of your teeth, taken with a digital scanner or precise impression material.
  • Low-radiation x-raysTaken when they are needed, as part of the consultation.
  • Infection controlSterilization to the standards of the ADA, the CDC and OSHA, for every patient.

Before treatment begins you get a written plan with the cost of each step. No surprises. Financing options are reviewed with you, and many patients phase the work to spread the cost.

Common questions

What people ask before they book.

Are porcelain veneers permanent?

They are considered permanent, because a thin layer of enamel is removed so they sit flush. With proper care veneers typically last 10 to 15 years, and can then be replaced if necessary.

Veneers or bonding: how do I choose?

Veneers offer long-term durability and stain resistance, and suit larger improvements. Bonding is faster, less invasive and cost-effective for minor corrections such as small chips and gaps. Composite veneers can be shaped in one visit for select cases. Dr. Forrest will guide you based on your goals, your bite and your timeline.

How long does a smile makeover take?

It depends on your plan. A makeover built around whitening and bonding might finish in two or three visits. One involving implants or Invisalign often takes several months. You get a clear timeline at your consultation.

Is cosmetic dentistry painful?

Most cosmetic procedures involve minimal discomfort. Local anesthetic is used where you might feel sensitivity, and most patients return to normal activity the same day.

Does insurance cover cosmetic dentistry?

Cosmetic treatment is usually considered elective and not covered. Restorative parts of a plan, such as implants or crowns, may qualify for partial coverage. Call the office and the staff will help you understand your benefits and your financing options.

How long does Invisalign treatment take?

Typically 12 to 18 months, depending on your orthodontic needs. Mild adjustments can be done in as little as 6 months, and more extensive corrections can take up to 24. Wearing the aligners 20 to 22 hours a day keeps treatment on track.

Are dental implants painful to place?

Implant placement is minor surgery, usually done under local anesthesia. Patients report minimal discomfort, managed with over-the-counter pain medication and a brief recovery.
